The author sets his story in neighborhoods like Makis, Rakovica, Resnik, Sremcica, Grocka, Orlovaca and other urban and suburban settlements, putting at the center of our attention small, ordinary people who, by chance, find themselves on the outskirts of the metropolis in search of happiness. Driven by the desire for a better life, these likable, endearing, well - intentioned, and above all, comedic protagonists encounter events that are often on the edge of absurdity and bizarreness. While seeking existence, they face numerous temptations, challenges, joys, and disappointments. The main character of the story is Kostadin Stavric - Stavra (played by Tihomir Stanic), a small-time trickster, resourceful and clever, initially appearing rough and awkward but fundamentally well-intentioned. He lives in Makis, near Belgrade, and makes a living by doing various odd jobs. All his "business" opportunities, schemes, and arrangements are on the edge of the law. However, he is not a criminal but just a man trying to feed his family. Stavra sells car chassis collected from the nearby highway, operates as an unlicensed taxi driver, melts and recycles candles from the cemetery, navigating through life and often getting into trouble due to his impulsiveness. He lives with his elderly mother, grandmother Nana (played by Mira Banjac), his wife Grozdana (Anita Mancic), younger brother, a dreamy poet named Razvigor (Boris Milivojevic), fellow SUKNOR member Gostimir (Milenko Pavlov), and two sons, older Tomce (Nenad Herakovic) and the younger heir, the one on whom all hopes are placed, Hrana (Marko Pavlovic). Stavra has two more brothers - Mika Harmonika (Marko Zivic) is a harmonica player, a musician, and Stojke, known as Gladiola (Rados Bajic), who owns a funeral services and parastos restaurant business and is the head of the Stavric family.
